Ever thought of what it would be like to have a real-life explosive-like gameplay that mimics the likes of what Hollywood’s stunt people do in recreating those ‘big bang’ movies? This video depicts a demo used during Jen-Hsun Huang’s Keynote on the first day of GTC. The goal was to try and construct a wall similar to how it may be constructed on a movie set and break it apart in a realistic manor in real-time. In this scenario they chose to throw ragdolls at it to fracture and splinter bits and pieces off.
The demo uses PhysX 2.8.3 and a beta release of APEX Destruction. Lighting is done using a forward renderer with 3 spotlights with everything (even the little bits that break off) casting and receiving shadows. Amazing isn’t it? If only this was a game…
