Not your Average Robocop June 2010

robocup2010posters

Alright, so it was not really Robocop that we spotted in town, but rather an interschool tournament to find out who the best robot designer is. Coming on the 19-25 June 2010, this internationally recognized tournament sees the brains from schools from all around the world compete for the ultimate title as – Robot Genius. Fine. So it is not really a competition for such a ‘cool’ title, but still, it would be pretty neat to tell everyone you met that you are in fact, the Ultimate Robot Genius.

Amongst the 300 local students competing to represent Singapore in this 2010 showdown, a child as young as 7-year old has been spotted. Talk about cultivating the young! Still, with over 3,000 participants from over 40 countries, an amazing variety of lively performance can be viewed.

From robots kicking footballs. Machines that perform rescue missions. Automatons that take on an uncanny ‘human’-like’ artificial intelligence that seemingly blurs the lines of what is real and what is man-made; one word describes this event- Amazing. For more info, log-on to www.ctoo.sp.edu.sg/aricc/ and check out SP’s updates on this upcoming event.

Gender-bending now a bannable offense – In China

Big Brother is watching you, and he’s now making sure you don’t lie (or live out your fantasies or… whatever) in MMO’s. China MMO company Aurora Technology has announced that players will now have to create and play characters based strictly on their real-life sex in the MMO game King of the World.
How do they hope to enforce the law? You’ll have to get yourself ID’ed with a webcam shot of yourself while playing. Apparently, this news is almost a month old now, but has only recently come to our attention as well. Oddly enough, according to GamesPolitics.com, the ruling only seems to be aimed at men who play as women, but not vice versa.

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

So if you are a mecha fan, you would definitely want to get your hands on more than just a simple transformer toy or play with those mechanical vehicles that do not come to live, no matter how much you battle them out with your friends. Exteel is perhaps the only MMORPG in Singapore that revolves around robots in an exciting arena that allows constant carnage and destruction of all sorts.

They even have a fanpage on facebook- www.facebook.com/exteel. Do check it out, and before you know it, you would probably be hooked onto this game as well. I know I am!

Now we’ve got LEGO Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Rock Band… and LEGO Universe, the MMO.
