We were one of a small number of tech journalists today to meet up with Jay Shen, APAC Engineering Product & Business Development Manager for uber GPS manufacturer Garmin to discuss the upcoming Garmin nuvifone. You’ll probably see similar articles online from our buddies at CNET Asia, HWz and PC Mag Singapore.
So here’s something interesting. You know MP3? That super popular music format that you’ve grown to know and love. Well, apparently, it’s going to be replaced quite soon by something which can arguably be called the next-gen music format. Imagine being able to take control of the instruments being played in the song your listening to. Toning down the base, upping the drums and lead, shutting the vocals off completely and… Well you get the point.
A reliable source has confirmed a few 2nd generation iPhone rumors and facts for us:
1. The September SG availability rumor is confirmed – the new iPhone will be in Singapore BY September. Apparently, all matters pertaining to distribution, servicing, TAS approval, etc have been settled, and it is up to the local telco(s) to decide on when to launch the iPhone after Apple officially announces it (most likely at WWDC on the 9th of June).
2. No comment was given on the exclusivity of the iPhone with SingTel and when/if the other telcos will also carry the iPhone.
3. The 2nd generation iPhone will be ‘significantly’ different from the original. Our source was subject to a non-disclosure agreement – and so could not give specific details on the design, dimension and specific features, but has verified that 3G is just one of the new features the new iPhone has over its predecessor.
4. During our informal conversation about the iPhone and the iPod Touch, our source mentioned that “8GB is not enough” – perhaps in reference to a 32GB capacity iPhone.
5. When asked about the 2nd gen iPhone in comparison to the new HTC Touch Diamond, our source voiced the opinion that the new iPhone is a superior device.
6. Our source also verified that Apple has already held familiarisation sessions with service staff on the new iPhone.
So we attended the Singapore launch of the HTC Touch Diamond smartphone, and silly me – I forgot to put a memory card into my dSLR. Well, I guess I’ll have to throw out a press image or two of the device instead…
Here’s the front:
After more than a month of intense speculation that were triggered by a comment from All Thing’s Digital’s Walt Mosberg, the furor over the upcoming 2nd generation iPhone is ramping up to feeding frenzy proportions in tech publications and websites everywhere in the world.
This is the Ubanana uCan mp3 player, and no, I dint just make that up.
Following Osim’s trend of “lovely” product names like the uYoyo,iGogo and what not, uBanana is here to kick some Apple arse!!
As you can figure out from the name (or not) this is the first and smallest fully integrated waterproof MP3 player with 1GB of storage space boasting 15-hour playback from the battery. It’s waterproof to a depth of three metres and handily floats should it pop off during a particularly virile spot of butterfly action.
And as it would have been, where holding our breath and wishing for one didn’t seem to have done any wonders…Apple has finally decided to flood our shores, after many months’ of anticipation. ![]()
SingTel and its partners have tied in with Apple to carry their iPhone (finally!); distributed throughout India, Philippines, Australia and Singapore.
Luckily, Casio has 1200 of them — that’s how many frames its new EX-F1 can shoot every second, at top speed.
This creates ultra-slo-mo movies that turn everyday sights like falling water into eye-popping, mind-bending visuals, albeit at low resolution (336×96-pixels).
It can rattle off full fat 6MP snaps at a memory card-punishing 60fps, and even night time scarcely slows the Casio down, with an epilepsy-inducing stroble flash that fires seven times a second. Take a time out to look at the images, and you’ll find them lively and colourful, if not overly detailed.
The May issue of T3 goes on sale this Monday, so check out what we have in store this month!
